Is AI the future of work?

Microsoft has been working closely with OpenAI to create various artificial intelligence tools to help enhance our lives. The rollout is already in its infancy as Microsoft integrates AI into its browser ‘Edge’ (Click the ‘Bing’ icon in the top right corner), and a full rollout across the Microsoft 365 suite is planned for the coming months.

Known as ‘Copilot’, this AI tool will help with many tasks within the Microsoft 365 suite and is integrated into Microsoft 365 in two ways. Firstly, it works alongside the Microsoft 365 apps you use daily to supercharge your productivity and unleash your creativity, but it also works through a new experience called ‘Business Chat’.

Business Chat combines the power of Larger Language Models, your Microsoft 365 apps and your data (your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings and contacts) to streamline your business in ways you’ve never been able to dream of before. You can give it natural language prompts like “Tell my team how we updated the product strategy,” it will generate a status update based on the morning’s meetings, emails and chat threads.

Microsoft 365 Copilot transforms your work in 3 key ways.

1. Unleash your creativity

• With Copilot in Word, you’ll never start from a blank slate. Save hours in writing, sourcing and editing time with a first draft to edit and iterate on. You’re always in control as the author, driving your unique ideas forward and prompting Copilot to shorten, rewrite or give feedback on your work.

• Copilot in PowerPoint draws on the relevant content you have created previously to create beautiful presentations with a simple prompt.

• With Copilot in Excel, you can identify and analyse trends you’d never spotted and create professional data visualisations in seconds.

2. Supercharge your productivity

We are all consumed by the busy work and admin that bogs us down, but Copilot lightens the load.

• From summarising long email threads into easy-to-digest prompts to quickly drafting suggested responses. Copilot in Outlook helps you clear your inbox and return to the work that matters.

• Copilot in Teams can summarise critical decisions from meetings – Including different viewpoints from attendees, all in real-time.
   

3. Level up your skills
 

• With thousands of available commands at your fingertips in Microsoft 365, Copilot helps you to take your skills to the next level. Fundamentally changing how people work with AI and how AI works with people.
   

In the months ahead, Microsoft will bring Copilot to all their productivity apps—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Viva, Power Platform, and more.
