Nviron Tech Circle Launches with a Focus on Agentic AI

Last week, we hosted the inaugural Nviron Tech Circle at the Treehouse Hotel in Manchester, bringing together business leaders, technology professionals and industry partners for an open discussion around one of the most talked-about developments in technology today: Agentic AI.

While AI continues to dominate headlines, the conversation throughout the afternoon was refreshingly practical.

Rather than focusing on future predictions, attendees explored what organisations should be doing today to prepare for the next phase of AI adoption and where the real opportunities and challenges are emerging.

One of the strongest themes to come out of the room was the changing role of technology within modern organisations. Increasingly, businesses are moving beyond viewing IT purely as a cost centre. The discussion centred on how technology is becoming a source of trust, resilience and competitive advantage when aligned with broader business goals.

The conversation also explored what makes agentic AI different from the tools many organisations are already familiar with. Unlike traditional AI assistants, agents can work towards a goal, break tasks into steps, make decisions and take action within defined boundaries. The shift is subtle but important. It moves the conversation from assistance to delegation.

Another recurring theme was readiness.

Several attendees highlighted that the technology itself is often not the biggest barrier. Many of the tools needed to begin experimenting with AI already exist within the Microsoft ecosystem and wider technology stack. The challenge is identifying the right processes to target and ensuring the foundations are in place to support adoption.

That naturally led to one of the most discussed topics of the afternoon: data quality.

Multiple conversations returned to the same conclusion. Poor data remains one of the biggest obstacles to successful AI projects. Without accurate, structured and well-governed information, organisations risk limiting the value they can generate from even the most advanced tools.

The final theme was speed.

For many attendees, smaller and medium-sized organisations may be better positioned than they realise. With fewer layers of governance, less legacy complexity and faster decision-making cycles, they have an opportunity to adopt and adapt more quickly than larger enterprises.

The event reinforced a simple point. The question is no longer whether AI will influence the way organisations operate. The focus is now on readiness, governance, data quality and practical implementation.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion.

Issue 01 of the Nviron Tech Circle newsletter will be landing shortly, covering the key themes from the event, what we're watching in the market, and where we believe the biggest opportunities are emerging.

We're already looking forward to the next Nviron Tech Circle in June, where the focus will shift to cyber security, compliance and the changing regulatory landscape, including the Cyber Resilience Act, AI regulation and what it all means for businesses in practice.
