That’s according to the government’s latest Technology in Schools survey — meaning over a third of schools are still dealing with patchy connections, unreliable coverage, and tech that slows everyone down.
To address this, the Department for Education has launched a consultation on making six core digital standards mandatory for all schools and colleges by 2030.
These cover the essential building blocks of modern IT:
- Broadband internet
- Wireless networks
- Network switches
- Filtering and monitoring
- Cyber security
- Digital leadership and governance
Right now, just 16% of schools meet all six. The government wants that to change - and this new round of funding is a big step towards levelling the playing field.
